The Fall 2012 Advanced Courses Conference at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California is coming up soon on October 17-23, and PRG is offering 10 courses that address many aspects of patent law, ranging from chemical patent practice to “designing around” valid U.S. patents.
In addition, I am excited to announce that we will be offering an additional free seminar for all registered conference attendees — “Brief Overview of Patent Prosecution in Japan” — at this conference on Monday, October 22 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, after all of the regular PRG courses are done for the day. This course will be taught by Mr. Sanji Miyagi, a patent attorney (Benrishi) with Isshiki & Co., and will provide a chronological overview of the typical patent prosecution process in Japan, from filing through registration.
The course will focus on the major differences in the U.S. and Japanese systems, such as:
- Patentable subject matter;
- Exception to loss of novelty;
- Acceleration of patent prosecution;
- Voluntary amendment within original disclosure;
- Importance of reviewing claims upon requesting substantive examination;
- Reduction of cost for examination request;
- Criteria of unobviousness/inventive step;
- Restriction on amendment of application when responding to non-final action/action made final or demanding administrative appeal;
- Division of application – when and how; and
- Relying on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH).
There is no need to sign up for this seminar, which is free for all registered conference attendees — if you are interested, just show up to take advantage of this great opportunity!
