The Fall 2012 Advanced Courses Conference at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, California is coming up soon on October 17-23, and PRG is offering 10 courses that address many aspects of patent law, ranging from chemical patent practice to “designing around” valid U.S. patents.

In addition, I am excited to announce that we will be offering an additional free seminar for all registered conference attendees — “Brief Overview of Patent Prosecution in Japan” — at this conference on Monday, October 22 from 5:00pm to 6:30pm, after all of the regular PRG courses are done for the day.  This course will be taught by Mr. Sanji Miyagi, a patent attorney (Benrishi) with Isshiki & Co., and will provide a chronological overview of the typical patent prosecution process in Japan, from filing through registration.

The course will focus on the major differences in the U.S. and Japanese systems, such as:

  •  Patentable subject matter;
  • Exception to loss of novelty;
  • Acceleration of patent prosecution;
  • Voluntary amendment within original disclosure;
  • Importance of reviewing claims upon requesting substantive examination;
  • Reduction of cost for examination request;
  • Criteria of unobviousness/inventive step;
  • Restriction on amendment of application when responding to non-final action/action made final or demanding administrative appeal;
  • Division of application – when and how; and
  • Relying on the Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH).

There is no need to sign up for this seminar, which is free for all registered conference attendees — if you are interested, just show up to take advantage of this great opportunity!

PRG’s Fall Advanced Courses Conference will be held at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian  Wells, CA, from October 17-23, 2012.  Our courses go  beyond the basics and give you practical insights that you can apply immediately.  And all of our courses have been updated as needed to reflect the ongoing impacts on you and your practice of the America Invents Act (AIA).

The Fall course line-up includes one of our most popular courses — “Crafting & Drafting Winning Patents”.  This course focuses on a series of cases where the patent owner lost, not because of what the litigators did, but because of how the patent practitioner drafted and prosecuted the application.  This course will teach you how to write provisional applications and draft and prosecute nonprovisional patent applications to avoid these pitfalls.

PRG’s Advanced Courses conferences provide an amazing value — our tuition rates have remained unchanged since 2005!  And if you come to our programs every year, you’re actually paying less due to our Loyalty Program.

Act today — the hotel registration deadline is October 3, for an amazing room rate of only $169.00 per night, single or double, plus tax.

When you’re trying to advance your intellectual property career by taking the USTPO’s bar exam, there are two key questions that you need answered:

  • Has your review course been updated to reflect the latest exam?
  • Is your review course giving you the best possible preparation for the exam?

When you take our classroom patent bar review course in San Francisco, CA on November 5-9, 2012, we can assure you that the answer to both questions is a resounding “Yes!”  Our course has already been updated to reflect the changes in the exam that will be rolled out on October 2, 2012.  You’ll be trained based on the information and materials that you need to know to pass this latest exam version.

And PRG is 100% focused on helping you to pass the latest version of the exam!  You’ll get:

  • The most comprehensive level of preparation possible, covering all topics that could be included on your exam
  • Instruction from PRG’s academic director, Paul Gardner, one of America’s leading patent law experts
  • 37.5 hours of actual instruction time, unlike PLI, which devotes significant amounts of classroom time to practice exams; practice exams are critical, but are more productively done on your own time using ExamWare®, our web-based exam prep tool
  • Detailed course presentation slides to facilitate note-taking and studying.

The results speak for themselves.  100% of our 2010 and 2011 attendees rated our course as Excellent or Good, and 100% would recommend our course!

That’s right, it’s after Labor Day!  That means it is time to take care of a very important task — register today to join PRG in southern California on October 17-23, 2012 for our Fall Advanced Courses Conference.  We’ll be offering 10 outstanding one-, two-, and three-day courses that set the industry standard for advanced patent education.

Our Fall Conference, which will be held at the Hyatt Regency Indian Wells Resort & Spa in Indian Wells, CA, goes beyond the basics and gives you practical insights that you can apply immediately.  And all of our returning courses have been updated as needed to reflect the ongoing impacts on you and your practice of the America Invents Act (AIA).  We’re also offering a special one-day course focusing solely on the AIA.  We’ll help you to avoid the dangers that the AIA poses to practitioners in all areas of patent law.

The Fall course line-up also includes a course that is critical for any attorney or agent who wants to pursue validity challenges at the USPTO.  The three-day “Post-Grant Patent Practice: Review, Reexamination, Reissue, and Supplemental Examination” course provides comprehensive training on indispensable tools for patent prosecutors and litigators, including new tools created by the AIA:

  • Ex parte reexamination
  • Inter partes reexamination
  • Post-grant review (new under the AIA)
  • Inter partes review (new under the AIA)
  • Transitional program to review business method patents (new under the AIA)
  • Reissue
  • Supplemental examination (new under the AIA)

The course covers strategies, tactics, best practices, and case studies, as well as the statutory and regulatory framework for the AIA’s new review proceedings.
